The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute, Samuel Rocha ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Paulo José Fontes was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Leopoldo Britto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulo José Fontes having to interfere. After some careless play in the Palmeiras FC defense, Leopoldo Britto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Paulo José Fontes. The Palmeiras FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Paulo José Fontes should have stopped the shot. After 14 played minutes Palmeiras FC got a freekick which was hit by Rafa Queiroz. The audience was convinced that Leopoldo Britto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Paulo José Fontes was relentless in the 16th minute of the game. In the 21st minute, Túlio Rodrigues hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, REAL IMPERIAL EC's Carlos Eduardo das Neves got a free kick in the 24th minute. After recieving a nice pass, Palmeiras FC's Erasmo Travassos tried to score from far away in the 25th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 27 minutes into the match, Celsinho de Sousa had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luiz Fabiano Godoi. REAL IMPERIAL EC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Celsinho de Sousa was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. After 31 played minutes REAL IMPERIAL EC got a freekick which was hit by Alan Fernandez. The attack was good, but when Túlio Rodrigues in the 32nd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. After a defensive mix-up in Palmeiras FC's zone, Leopoldo Britto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulo José Fontes came out of the goal and Leopoldo Britto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Palmeiras FC booed when REAL IMPERIAL EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arí Berger didn't get a good kick on the ball.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Túlio Rodrigues to make the kick off. A collision led to REAL IMPERIAL EC getting a freekick after 50 minutes play. Arí Berger hit a great ball. After having played for 51 minutes, Celsinho de Sousa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palmeiras FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Celsinho de Sousa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Umberto Pena kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. Celsinho de Sousa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luiz Fabiano Godoi read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. A collision led to Palmeiras FC getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Rafa Queiroz hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Samuel Rocha got free with Paulo José Fontes in the 79th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 80 played minutes Palmeiras FC got a freekick which was hit by Adhemar Nóbrega. Luiz Fabiano Godoi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rafa Queiroz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 86th minute, Samuel Rocha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 88 minutes, Samuel Rocha managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. REAL IMPERIAL EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Samuel Rocha was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The REAL IMPERIAL EC fans' excitement grew in the 90th match minute when REAL IMPERIAL EC's Samuel Rocha looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.
