With his leg Walmir Novaes managed to avoid a goal in the 6thth minute, when Trahira's Cacá Damião fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Sambaitiba's Walmir Novaes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save Sambaitiba from getting a goal against them. 13 minutes into the match, Sambaitiba's goalkeeper Walmir Novaes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sílvio Pombal. A hard shot 14 in the game by Cacá Damião from a close distance when the talented Walmir Novaes managed to make a qualified save. Sambaitiba's players were relieved. Cacá Damião did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Walmir Novaes 14 minutes into the match. Cacá Damiãos short, quick shot in the 17thth minute got Walmir Novaes to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 20 minutes into the match, Sambaitiba's goalkeeper Walmir Novaes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cacá Damião. Emerson Sousa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Walmir Novaes having to make a save. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Emerson Sousa took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Walmir Novaes to make any attempt to save it. Trahira's Nilmar Pombal managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by José Carlos Martins in the 28 minute of the game. Fiori Bezerra's late challenge caught a Sambaitiba's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fiori Bezerra helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Trahira's Fiori Bezerra got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Rubens Ferraz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Antônio Damião in the 34th minute of the match. 36 minutes into the match, Sambaitiba's goalkeeper Walmir Novaes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cacá Damião. Durvalino Recife's late challenge caught a Trahira's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Luís Paulo Travassos to strike the kick off in the second half. Ulisses Vinhas received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Rubens Ferraz came out and tried to block the shot, but Ulisses Vinhas slotted it home off the left post making it 3-1 in the 52nd minute. Walmir Novaes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cacá Damião, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Walmir Novaes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cacá Damião in the 56th minute of play. Walmir Novaes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cacá Damião's shot from short distance in the 58th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Sambaitiba's zone, Cacá Damião stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Walmir Novaes came out of the goal and Cacá Damião tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Cacá Damião managed to get in a good position for a shot. Trahira's supporters rose to their feet, but Cacá Damião was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Walmir Novaes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Walmir Novaes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emerson Sousa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Trahira's attentive Nilmar Pombal managed to snatch the ball when José Carlos Martins made a throw-in in the 69th minute of the game. When Emerson Sousa came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Trahira fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emerson Sousa couldn't finish the play. Cacá Damião blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Walmir Novaes having to make a save. If Cacá Damião had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trahira's Cacá Damião got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 83 minutes into the game, Válter Lara was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sambaitiba's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Trahira the free kick. In the 84th minute of the match Moisés Chaves sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Walmir Novaes skillfully saved the ball. 85 minutes into the game, Vitório Fantini was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sambaitiba's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Trahira the free kick. After a rather tough play, Sambaitiba's Vitório Fantini got a free kick in the 85th minute. After 90 played minutes Sambaitiba got a freekick which was hit by Antônio Damião. Cacá Damião's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Walmir Novaes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 92nd minute of play. When the referee ended the match the Trahira players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
