After 4 minutes of play, Velez Sarsfield's Lucio Mattin made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Velez Sarsfield's Epifanio Lobo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eulalio Poz in the 10th minute of play. 13 minutes into the game, Rafael Gutxi was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Los Charruas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Velez Sarsfield the free kick. The supporters of Velez Sarsfield booed when Los Charruas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rafael Gutxi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lucio Mattin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Los Charruas's goalkeeper Gonzalo Pabla, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Eulalio Poz took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Epifanio Lobo to make any attempt to save it. After a defensive mix-up in Velez Sarsfield's zone, Eulalio Poz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Epifanio Lobo came out of the goal and Eulalio Poz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Rafael Gutxi was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 37 minutes had been played. In the 38th match minute, Los Charruas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rafael Gutxi to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Los Charruas's zone, Lino Tartalo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gonzalo Pabla came out of the goal and Lino Tartalo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lucio Mattin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gonzalo Pabla having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

If Lucio Mattin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lino Tartalo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Gonzalo Pabla tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 75thth minute of the game Lucio Mattin who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Los Charruas's Gonzalo Pabla was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Lino Tartalo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gonzalo Pabla took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lucio Mattin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
