After 3 played minutes Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba got a freekick which was hit by Baldomero Bieito. When Roque Rainerio came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Club Atletico River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Roque Rainerio couldn't finish the play. Horacio Sabino kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. Roque Rainerio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diego Orlondon having to interfere. In the 19th minute Humberto Guillelmus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacobo Roland saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 32 minutes into the match, Roque Rainerio had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Diego Orlondon. Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Roque Rainerio was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. If Guaberto Gonzales had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Roque Rainerio managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club Atletico River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Roque Rainerio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Diego Orlondon breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Roque Rainerio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Baldomero Bieito in the 54th minute of play forced Club Atletico River Plate's goalkeeper Jacobo Roland to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 55 minutes, Gregorio Ourente mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Atletico River Plate and the Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 55 played minutes Club Atletico River Plate got a freekick which was hit by Gregorio Ourente. In the 58th minute Humberto Guillelmus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacobo Roland saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jacobo Roland made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Baldomero Bieito in the 64th minute of play. Roque Rainerio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's Teodoro Ixidor got a free kick in the 66th minute. Diego Orlondon stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Roque Rainerio's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. If Roque Rainerio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Angelino Xabier charged in rather forcefully in the 72nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Angelino Xabier the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Club Atletico River Plate booed when Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angelino Xabier didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Baldomero Bieito fell near the penalty area in the 74th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's protests and gave Baldomero Bieito a yellow card for diving instead. Baldomero Bieito hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Guaberto Gonzaless short, quick shot in the 75thth minute got Diego Orlondon to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Gregorio Ourente kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. Roque Rainerio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diego Orlondon having to interfere. If Horacio Sabino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Club Atletico River Plate were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba to leave the ground with a draw.
