In the 15th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Ramon Tirso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 17th minute Guillermo Presebal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pierre Simpson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Godofredo Oinaz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 29 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's Guillermo Presebal sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Pierre Simpson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Guillermo Presebal recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 33 minutes, Ciriaco Quentin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ciriaco Quentin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Ramon Tirso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 38th minute Ciriaco Quentin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ramon Tirso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Ciriaco Quentin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 44 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Ramon Tirso had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Amancio Gelacio. Ramon Tirso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ciriaco Quentin in the 46th minute of the match. Ciriaco Quentin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ramon Tirso read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Guillermo Presebal made the kick off in the second half. Godofredo Oinaz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Pierre Simpson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Newells Old Boys's Primitivo Vincent got a free kick in the 56th minute. 58 minutes into the match, River Plate's Amancio Gelacio sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ramon Tirso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ciriaco Quentin in the 62nd minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Ramon Tirso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Amancio Gelacio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ciriaco Quentin in the 81st minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Ramon Tirso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. River Plate had won after a very even match.
