Agustin Rosario took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 22nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Felipe Fernandes. newells04's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a rather tough play, Captain Tsubasa's Fabricio Rainerio got a free kick in the 37th minute. In the 38th minute, Rolando Eriz fired a really elegant long shot, but Ubaldo Ignatius threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. Captain Tsubasa's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave newells04 the free kick. The supporters of newells04 booed when Captain Tsubasa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabricio Rainerio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Paulo Paz to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in newells04's zone, Robustiano Nayely stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Felipe Fernandes came out of the goal and Robustiano Nayely tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Captain Tsubasa's Robustiano Nayely got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gilberto Gau charged in rather forcefully in the 65th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gilberto Gau the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Gilberto Gau hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. If Robustiano Nayely had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Captain Tsubasa booed when newells04 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marco Constancio didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Paz in the 89th minute of play forced newells04's goalkeeper Felipe Fernandes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Teo Indar struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Ubaldo Ignatius didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for newells04.
