Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Clemente Lauro to make the kick off. After having played for 56 minutes, Basilio Tiso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newells's supporters crossed their fingers, but Basilio Tiso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Douglas Haig's Clemente Lauro got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Eriberto Policarpio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicasio Poncio in the 65th minute of play. Nicasio Poncio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eriberto Policarpio having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicasio Poncio in the 76th minute of play forced Douglas Haig's goalkeeper Eriberto Policarpio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Newells booed when Douglas Haig was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gaston Cordarryl didn't get a good kick on the ball.
