When the match clock showed 37 minutes, the score became 0-3 when Carmelo Orixe sped through Saldungaray's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Higinio Frechoso. When Benito Guillen fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Saldungaray's protests and gave Benito Guillen a yellow card for diving instead. Feliciano Berto's late challenge caught a Saldungaray's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After the first half Minorías AC were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Javier Tonete to make the kick off.
