The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 26th minute Innes McVanish shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Murray Haws saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Gregor McClymont came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Ryde fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gregor McClymont couldn't finish the play. When Gregor McClymont, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 36 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Murray Haws was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. The supporters of Ryde booed when Bellshill was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. John Tolmie didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 45th minute, Innes McVanish fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Kenny Niven might have been able to make a better finish in the 57th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Taylor McGilvernock. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kenny Niven ran back to his position shaking his head. Ryde's defense didn't have a chance, in the 58th minute, when Simon Fox scored to the left of an out of position Taylor McGilvernock, making the score, 1-2. Kenny Niven fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Taylor McGilvernock having to interfere. Taylor McGilvernock made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Simon Fox in the 67th minute of play. 69 minutes into the match, Bellshill's goal looked a bit too open when Innes McVanish came free, but Murray Haws reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Innes McVanish received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Murray Haws tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Bellshill's zone, Gregor McClymont stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Murray Haws came out of the goal and Gregor McClymont tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gregor McClymont might have been able to make a better finish in the 80th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Murray Haws. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gregor McClymont ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Innes McVanish in the 81st minute of play forced Bellshill's goalkeeper Murray Haws to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 84 minutes into the match, Bellshill's goal looked a bit too open when Gregor McClymont came free, but Murray Haws reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
