Kieran McCaul didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Forfar City. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Martin Stalker in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wayne Stevenson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 22 minutes into the match, Forfar City's Darius McMonies sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Kieran McCaul narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 23rd minute, Darius McMonies ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Kieran McCaul was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Martin Stalker recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Forfar City's goalkeeper Wayne Stevenson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 33rd minute, Gordon McDuff got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Davie McGhie during the 38th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Denny booed when Forfar City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Davie McGhie didn't get a good kick on the ball. A hard shot by Kevin Niven from long distance, 39 minutes into the match, got Wayne Stevenson's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Martin Stalker sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Martin Stalker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wayne Stevenson having to interfere. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Barry Cottrill stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Wayne Stevenson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Martin Stalker's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. 70 minutes into the game, Martin Stalker cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Wayne Stevenson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Martin Stalker had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Barry Cottrill had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ron Lewis's late challenge caught a Forfar City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ron Lewis helped the player get up and apologised. In the 86th match minute, Denny was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ron Lewis to maneuver through the defense. Forfar City's Wayne Stevenson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aiden Munn in the 91st minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Darius McMonies managed to get in a good position for a shot. Forfar City's supporters rose to their feet, but Darius McMonies was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
