To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. maryhill bhoys's Guy Mein played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Douglas McLennan in the 12th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nigel McInnes during the 13th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Nigel McInnes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Guy Mein read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. In the 16th minute, Douglas McLennan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 18 played minutes Dunblane got a freekick which was hit by Chris McThomas. 20 minutes into the match, Dunblane's goal looked a bit too open when Ivan Skinner came free, but Gary McWhirr reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Nigel McInnes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Dunblane's Douglas McLennan in the 26th minute got a chance for a shot 26th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The wind increased when Douglas McLennan made the kick off in the second half. After 55 minutes of play, Dunblane's Douglas McLennan made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Guy Mein was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Freddie McQuartie in the 60th minute of play forced Dunblane's goalkeeper Gary McWhirr to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Ivan Skinner's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gary McWhirr was relentless in the 65th minute of the game. If Douglas McLennan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. Ivan Skinner fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gary McWhirr having to interfere. Dunblane played a much better game than maryhill bhoys and deserved their victory. The maryhill bhoys players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
