In the 31st minute John Hughson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edward McBaxter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Norman Davies struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Edward McBaxter didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Stornoway FC. 1-1 became the score in the 35th minute when John Hughson elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. When Rick Frissell came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the Stornoway FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rick Frissell couldn't finish the play. When the match had gone on for 46 minutes, John Hughson took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Edward McBaxter to make any attempt to save it. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

After a rather tough play, Inverness City's Troy McKinney got a free kick in the 89th minute. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Stornoway FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Inverness City had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
