Brechin
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Thanks to some nice moves Neil McTier could shoot a difficult shot in the 5th minute, which Gus Appleton however easily saved by the left post. With an all-out effort, Brechin's Gus Appleton threw himself towards the right post 6 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jonathan Duffie, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Ian McMenzies showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dylan Blair in the 8th minute of the match. Beith's Gus Appleton proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save Beith from getting a goal against them. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Terence McKellaig in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gus Appleton saved Beith from getting behind. Brechin's Ian McMenzies played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dylan Blair in the 13th minute of play. Terence McKellaig could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Gus Appleton made a huge save. Neil McTier hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Beith's Gareth McWhirr got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Gareth McWhirr was in a good position and ended up with the ball after Beith's free kick, but he didn't get a good hit on the ball and blazed it high and to the right of the goal. In the 25th minute, Gareth McWhirr ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ian McMenzies was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. After 29 minutes, Lucas Carr mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Beith and the Brechin players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Beith's Lucas Carr got a free kick in the 29th minute. Dylan Blair fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ian McMenzies having to interfere. If Terence McKellaig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Beith's Gus Appleton proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 41st minute of the match, managed to save Beith from getting a goal against them. After 42 played minutes Beith got a freekick which was hit by Lucas Carr. Gus Appleton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Terence McKellaig, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Terence McKellaig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 48 minutes into the match, Beith's goal looked a bit too open when Jonathan Duffie came free, but Gus Appleton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dylan Blair to strike the kick off in the second half. Dylan Blair struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Ian McMenzies didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Beith. Ian McMenzies made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dylan Blair in the 55th minute. After a rather tough play, Beith's Miles Gorman got a free kick in the 60th minute. After 61 minutes of play Beith's Lucas Carr was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 62 played minutes Beith got a freekick which was hit by Lucas Carr. Beith's Alexander Marnoch managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Ben Gilbertson in the 65 minute of the game. Gus Appleton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Terence McKellaig in the 72nd minute of play. Stevie McQuisten hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Terence McKellaig, 75 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. In the 77th minute, Jonathan Duffie left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Brechin fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. In the 87th minute, Gareth McWhirr reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Ian McMenzies. The goal made the score 1-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Neil McTier in the 95th minute of play forced Beith's goalkeeper Gus Appleton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Beith eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
