Ian McCabe was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 20th minute Davie McCaig shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iain Hawes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Harry McFie struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Iain Hawes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for ARBROATH FC. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Iain Hawes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Les McFarlane to strike the kick off in the second half. Iain Hawes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Davie McCaig in the 54th minute of the match. After 57 minutes, Sam Hill mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dragons Academy and the ARBROATH FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Dragons Academy's Sam Hill got a free kick in the 58th minute. In the 68th minute, Sid Fyfe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. ARBROATH FC's Ian McCabe proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to save ARBROATH FC from getting a goal against them. After 73 played minutes Dragons Academy got a freekick which was hit by Mike McKerchar. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Dragons Academy's goalkeeper Iain Hawes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With an all-out effort, Dragons Academy's Ian McCabe threw himself towards the right post 81 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Sid Fyfe, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Sid Fyfe managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dragons Academy's supporters rose to their feet, but Sid Fyfe was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ian McCabe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Les McFarlane could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 84th minute of the match, but Ian McCabe made a huge save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Davie McCaig in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Iain Hawes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Owen Ellwood had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Terry McCay received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Ian McCabe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Conor Tyre fell near the penalty area in the 93rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Dragons Academy's protests and gave Conor Tyre a yellow card for diving instead. 93 minutes into the game, one of Dragons Academy:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 94th minute there was a penalty for ARBROATH FC. Kevin Greusach stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Iain Hawes. 3-1. The ARBROATH FC support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
