The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Gregor Harold got the match started through his kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 6th minute, Gregor Harold managed to get in a good position for a shot. Kirriemuir's supporters rose to their feet, but Gregor Harold was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Martin Sorely breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ian Moray scored 0-1 in the 7th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Norman Alder, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Greenock's Martin Sorely proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 11th minute of the match, managed to save Greenock from getting a goal against them. Kirriemuir's Norman Alder played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ray McNaughton in the 18th minute of play. When Marc Duilach came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Greenock fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marc Duilach couldn't finish the play. Walter McChoiter hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Greenock's Walter McChoiter got his second yellow card of the match in the 23rd minute. The referee ordered Walter McChoiter off the ground. In the 23rd match minute, Greenock was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Walter McChoiter to maneuver through the defense. Martin Sorely showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gregor Harold, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Ray McNaughton recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 47th minute Marc Duilach shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Norman Alder saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The wind increased when Marc Duilach made the kick off in the second half. The crowd rose to their feet as Greenock's Ian Moray slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Norman Alder. That made the score 0-3 after 54 minutes of play. Marc Duilach sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 61 minutes into the match, Kirriemuir's goal looked a bit too open when Ian Moray came free, but Norman Alder reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 65th minute, Ian Moray hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Kirriemuir's zone, Marc Duilach stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Norman Alder came out of the goal and Marc Duilach tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ian Moray sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ray McNaughton could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Norman Alder made a huge save. In the 76th minute, Ray McNaughton ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Norman Alder was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. 79 minutes into the match, Kirriemuir's goalkeeper Norman Alder had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marc Duilach. After a rather tough play, Greenock's Ian Moray got a free kick in the 85th minute. Marc Duilach received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute.
