Greenock

Seating: 2133, VIP seats: 184) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Phil Dobbie got the match started through his kick off. When Walter McChoiter came up free with the goalie in the 2nd minute, the Greenock fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Walter McChoiter couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Greenock getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Wally McCoull hit a great ball. Aaron McIan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ian Moray in the 6th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marc Duilach got free with Aaron McIan in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Kenny Haws had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Phil Dobbie managed to get in a good position for a shot. Alva's supporters rose to their feet, but Phil Dobbie was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Martin Sorely breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 20 minutes of play, Greenock's Ian Moray made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Aaron McIan was left in no man's land by his defense there! Marc Duilach could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Aaron McIan made a huge save. Martin Sorely showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Phil Dobbie, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ray McNaughton during the 31st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Greenock's Ray McNaughton got a free kick in the 32nd minute. 35 minutes into the match, Alva's goal looked a bit too open when Ian Moray came free, but Aaron McIan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Greenock's Ian Moray got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 46 minutes into the game, Walter McChoiter cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Aaron McIan was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ian Moray made a kick off. Phil Dobbie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Martin Sorely tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ray McNaughton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aaron McIan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Walter McChoiter, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Aaron McIan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marc Duilach in the 62nd minute of the match. After 63 played minutes Alva got a freekick which was hit by Wal McLairish. After having played for 64 minutes, Marc Duilach managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Greenock's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marc Duilach was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Aaron McIan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ray McNaughton, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Phil Dobbie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Martin Sorely tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 68th minute of the game. One of Greenock:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Alva:s goal. Marc Borthwick shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Martin Sorely took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Phil Dobbie, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 76 played minutes Phil Dobbie rounded Greenock's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 3-1. The supporters of Greenock booed when Alva was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nicol McCuag didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 83 minutes, Walter McChoiter managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Greenock's supporters crossed their fingers, but Walter McChoiter was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Walter McChoiter received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Aaron McIan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 91st minute, Ray McNaughton ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Aaron McIan was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. Aaron McIan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ian Moray in the 94th minute of play. Kenny Haws took the ball and in the 96 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Martin Sorely. Martin Sorely dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-2. Greenock's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
