The audience was convinced that Marc Duilach's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Chris Mark was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. Alan Cunningham hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. The supporters of Greenock booed when Highland Warriors was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. William McAlduie didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Ian Moray had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 32ndth minute of the game Ian Moray who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Highland Warriors's Chris Mark was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Alan Cunningham kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. In the 43rd minute, Greg McConochie got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 45thth minute of the game Greg McConochie who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Greenock's Martin Sorely was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Chris Mark took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ian Moray, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Greg McConochie stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Greenock's Marc Duilach sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Chris Mark narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 55th minute the ball was on its way in behind Highland Warriors's goalkeeper Chris Mark, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Wally McCoull during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Highland Warriors's zone, Ian Moray stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Chris Mark came out of the goal and Ian Moray tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Greg McConochie fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Martin Sorely having to interfere. When Greg McConochie came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Highland Warriors fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Greg McConochie couldn't finish the play. After 81 played minutes Greenock got a freekick which was hit by Ray McNaughton. Jeremy McGlasrich charged in rather forcefully in the 83rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jeremy McGlasrich the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play.
