The supporters of Liverpool booed when Slough was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frances Bennett didn't get a good kick on the ball. George Routledge sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Crispin Potterton recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ivan Newbury made an important save on a dangerous shot by Crispin Potterton in the 49th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for George Routledge to strike the kick off in the second half. Ivan Newbury made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Mills in the 53rd minute of play. In the 54th minute Neal Butt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivan Newbury saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Crispin Potterton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivan Newbury having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Crispin Potterton in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ivan Newbury prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 70 minutes into the game, Crispin Potterton cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Ivan Newbury was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jake Bird's late challenge caught a Liverpool's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jake Bird helped the player get up and apologised. Jake Bird hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. Ivan Newbury came out of the goal and Crispin Potterton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 90thth minute of the game George Routledge who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Slough's Ivan Newbury was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Adam Crossley could shoot a difficult shot in the 94th minute, which Trevor Pearson however easily saved by the left post. Ivan Newbury showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from George Routledge, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. George Routledge fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivan Newbury having to interfere.
