Patrick Donaghy kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Cody Griffiths showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Andy Holt in the 10th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Shrewsbury AFC's zone, Jeff Hyde stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rodd Delamore came out of the goal and Jeff Hyde tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rodd Delamore stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jeff Hyde's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. Through an outstanding action, after 24 minutes, Cody Griffiths successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Joseph Budden took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 26th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Rodd Delamore. Shrewsbury AFC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 30th minute, Jeff Hyde got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 38th minute Andy Holt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cody Griffiths saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Joseph Budden fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Joseph Budden hit a great ball. After 43 minutes of play, Shrewsbury AFC's Andy Holt made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cody Griffiths was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Andy Holt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Andy Holt was the one to do the kick off. Cody Griffiths stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alec Milburn's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. The supporters of Netherton booed when Shrewsbury AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Willie Boyd didn't get a good kick on the ball. It was beautiful to see Netherton's Ian Featherstone in action when he in the 56th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! In the 59th match minute, Netherton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patrick Donaghy to maneuver through the defense. Alec Milburn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cody Griffiths having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alec Milburn in the 64th minute of play forced Netherton's goalkeeper Cody Griffiths to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kenneth E. Blackwell might have been able to make a better finish in the 66th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rodd Delamore. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kenneth E. Blackwell ran back to his position shaking his head. 67 minutes into the match, Shrewsbury AFC's Andy Holt sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cody Griffiths narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 71st minute of the match Joseph Budden sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rodd Delamore skillfully saved the ball. 72 minutes into the game, Travis Schofield was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Shrewsbury AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Netherton the free kick. A collision led to Shrewsbury AFC getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Travis Schofield hit a great ball. Cody Griffiths made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andy Holt in the 78th minute of play. If Alec Milburn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 82nd minute, Brian Galway hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Netherton getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Patrick Donaghy hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Alec Milburn managed to get in a good position for a shot. Shrewsbury AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Alec Milburn was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cody Griffiths breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 91 minutes into the game, Alistair Ingham was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Shrewsbury AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Netherton the free kick. After 91 played minutes Shrewsbury AFC got a freekick which was hit by Alistair Ingham. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
