Lincoln United's Jimmy Longley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Patrick Wakefield in the 13th minute of play. 19 minutes into the match, Johnathan Burley had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jimmy Longley. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Johnathan Burley managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rangers's supporters rose to their feet, but Johnathan Burley was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jimmy Longley breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Patrick Wakefield fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jimmy Longley having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Patrick Wakefield to make the kick off. Patrick Wakefield sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jimmy Longley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patrick Wakefield, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Patrick Wakefield in the 57th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jimmy Longley prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 70 played minutes, Rangers's Victor Harrison shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jimmy Longley came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Rangers reached it. Jimmy Longley showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Patrick Wakefield in the 71st minute of the match. Johnathan Burley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Patrick Wakefield received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Jimmy Longley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
