Caheradrine's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Breandan Cooney was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. With 24 minutes on the clock, Ryan John commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Caheradrine fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 24th minute. Penalty! In the 26th minute there was a penalty for Dundalk FC. Breenan Keegan stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Peyton McNamee. 1-2. 33 minutes into the match, Caheradrine's Donn McSteven sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fintan Doherty narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Dundalk FC's zone, Donn McSteven stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fintan Doherty came out of the goal and Donn McSteven tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Caheradrine getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Eamonn McWillie hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Donn McSteven managed to get in a good position for a shot. Caheradrine's supporters rose to their feet, but Donn McSteven was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fintan Doherty breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Donn McStevens short, quick shot in the 44thth minute got Fintan Doherty to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Donn McSteven in the 47thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Fintan Doherty, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Donn McSteven stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Dundalk FC's Fintan Doherty played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Donn McSteven in the 54th minute of play. Donn McSteven received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Fintan Doherty tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Donn McSteven recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Harkin McLaughlin kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Donn McSteven in the 89th minute of play forced Dundalk FC's goalkeeper Fintan Doherty to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Boynton Rutherford sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 92 played minutes Caheradrine got a freekick which was hit by Boynton Rutherford.
