Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Caleb Woodcock made the kick off which started today's match. Bobby Tinker sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Golders Green United's zone, Howard Le Saux stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gary Boulding came out of the goal and Howard Le Saux tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Newcastle-under-Lyme's Ged Bostock got a good chance for a goal in the 10th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 11 played minutes Golders Green United got a freekick which was hit by Freddy Flynn. The supporters of Newcastle-under-Lyme booed when Golders Green United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jeremy Longthorn didn't get a good kick on the ball. Newcastle-under-Lyme's Ged Bostock got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Caleb Woodcock had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 20th play minute Ged Bostock came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Gary Boulding. 1-0. An unexpected shot in the 25th minute by Ged Bostock got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. In the 26th match minute, Golders Green United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jeremy Longthorn to maneuver through the defense. 28 minutes into the match, Golders Green United's goalkeeper Gary Boulding had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ged Bostock. Gary Boulding made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ged Bostock in the 33rd minute. In the 36th minute, Golders Green United's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Ged Bostock fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Jeremy Longthorn kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 38th minute of the game. One of Golders Green United:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Newcastle-under-Lyme:s goal. In the 44th minute, Howard Le Saux hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 45th minute of the match Will Flower shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Denis Grantham showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 47th minute, Ged Bostock got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
51 minutes into the match, Newcastle-under-Lyme's goal looked a bit too open when Gerry Kerridge came free, but Denis Grantham reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Caleb Woodcock managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newcastle-under-Lyme's supporters rose to their feet, but Caleb Woodcock was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gary Boulding breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 60 minutes, Caleb Woodcock made it 3-0 with a short kick to the right side. In the 77th minute, Damon Bryant sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Golders Green United's Gary Boulding didn't even have to move. Denis Grantham came out of the goal and Bobby Tinker tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sean Jones hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. If Caleb Woodcock had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Ged Bostock came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Newcastle-under-Lyme fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ged Bostock couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Golders Green United's Denny Button got a free kick in the 89th minute. Gary Boulding showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Howard Le Saux, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute.
