The audience was convinced that Tim Tolley's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phillip Hindmarsh was relentless in the 8th minute of the game. The referee ignored Oldham City's protests and gave Tod Whalley a yellow card for diving instead. When the match clock showed 34 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Tim Tolley sped through Oldham City's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Phillip Hindmarsh. When Tim Tolley came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Ash fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tim Tolley couldn't finish the play. Tim Tolley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phillip Hindmarsh having to interfere. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tim Tolley made a kick off. In the 52nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Ash's goalkeeper Greg Brooks, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Tod Whalley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 58thth minute of the game Peter Potterton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ash's Greg Brooks was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Greg Brooks showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tod Whalley in the 59th minute of the match. Peter Potterton recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Peter Potterton in the 62nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Greg Brooks saved Ash from getting behind. Albert Dyson's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 66thth minute, Phillip Hindmarsh skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 69th minute Peter Potterton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Greg Brooks saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Albert Dyson came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Ash fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Albert Dyson couldn't finish the play. After 73 minutes, Leo Glanvill mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ash and the Oldham City players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 73 played minutes Ash got a freekick which was hit by Leo Glanvill. Oldham City's Phillip Hindmarsh proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 78th minute of the match, managed to save Oldham City from getting a goal against them. The audience was convinced that Tim Tolley's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phillip Hindmarsh was relentless in the 79th minute of the game. Greg Brooks showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tod Whalley, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Albert Dyson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ash's supporters rose to their feet, but Albert Dyson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Phillip Hindmarsh breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tim Tolley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phillip Hindmarsh having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Ash's Les Kennedy got a free kick in the 92nd minute. Oldham City's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Tim Tolley 96 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-3. When the match was over Ash could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Oldham City throughout the match.
