In the 3rd match minute, Long Hanborough was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Victor Little to maneuver through the defense. 8 minutes into the game, Jonathon Cole was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Long Hanborough's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gillingham the free kick. In the 8th match minute, Long Hanborough was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jonathon Cole to maneuver through the defense. Through an outstanding action, after 12 minutes, Denny Bennet successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Jonathon Cole blasted a shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Silvester Robson having to make a save. Silvester Robson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Victor Little's shot from short distance in the 16th minute. Jonathon Cole fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Silvester Robson having to interfere. When Roy Anderson fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Long Hanborough's protests and gave Roy Anderson a yellow card for diving instead. When the match had been going on for 25 minutes, Gillingham's Jack Denham got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Denny Bennet. Gillingham's Silvester Robson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jonathon Cole in the 31st minute of play. In the 32nd minute, Paddy Allwright left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Long Hanborough fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Jonathon Cole received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Silvester Robson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Silvester Robson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Paddy Allwright's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. Jonathon Cole fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Silvester Robson having to interfere. If Jonathon Cole had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
52 minutes into the match, Long Hanborough's Jonathon Cole sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Silvester Robson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Silvester Robson made a fantastic save in the 54th minute, when Jonathon Cole sent off a good shot on target. If Paddy Allwright had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Denny Bennet showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Laurence Chiverton, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Leo Welch hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. In the 66th minute, Paddy Allwright fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paddy Allwright in the 69th minute of play forced Gillingham's goalkeeper Silvester Robson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Denny Bennet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Laurence Chiverton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Leo Welch kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. Rupert Dunne sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Denny Bennet stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Laurence Chiverton's shot from short distance in the 80th minute. Silvester Robson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paddy Allwright, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. After having played for 83 minutes, Paddy Allwright managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Long Hanborough's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paddy Allwright was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 93rd minute, Jonathon Cole got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 95th minute Rupert Dunne shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Denny Bennet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Gillingham fans cheered their team off the field, for while Long Hanborough had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
