Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Miles Lambley took the kick off in the first half of the match. Gavin Pritchard showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vernon Gower in the 3rd minute of the match. After 5 minutes of play, Southampton's Vernon Gower made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gavin Pritchard was left in no man's land by his defense there! Miles Lambley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nick Steele having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, Dave Colton had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gavin Pritchard. Horwich City's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dave Colton was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Vernon Gower managed to get in a good position for a shot. Southampton's supporters rose to their feet, but Vernon Gower was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gavin Pritchard breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 28th minute, Kieran Eldridge hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After recieving a nice pass, Southampton's Kev Frost tried to score from far away in the 28th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Keith Kenworthy charged in rather forcefully in the 32nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Keith Kenworthy the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 33 played minutes Southampton got a freekick which was hit by Keith Kenworthy. Marty Plumber was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 33rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. 35 minutes into the match, Southampton's goal looked a bit too open when Miles Lambley came free, but Nick Steele reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 37 minutes, Miles Lambley mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Horwich City and the Southampton players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 40th minute, Dave Colton got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

The wind increased when Vernon Gower made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Southampton's Gary Kaye got a free kick in the 52nd minute. After 57 minutes, Grant Oatway mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Horwich City and the Southampton players grew even worse after the yellow card. Miles Lambley ran back to his position shaking his head. During the 77th minute of the match Grant Oatway completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Grant Oatway a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 78th minute, Grant Oatway hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Miles Lambley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Nick Steele tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Horwich City's Callum Dunning got a good chance for a goal in the 83rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Miles Lambley might have been able to make a better finish in the 86th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nick Steele. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Although Horwich City had been in control for most of the match, Southampton still came away with the win.
