Malcolm Bowler started the match with the kick off. In the 6th minute, Harry Marenghi left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Walworth Runners fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Alf Ricketts charged in rather forcefully in the 10th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alf Ricketts the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 14 minutes into the match, Woolwich City's goal looked a bit too open when Alf Woods came free, but Danny Hopkinson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Alf Woods had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 19th minute, Byron Chalk hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Woolwich City's zone, Alf Woods stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Danny Hopkinson came out of the goal and Alf Woods tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 22 minutes into the match, Woolwich City's goal looked a bit too open when Alf Woods came free, but Danny Hopkinson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Malcolm Bowlers short, quick shot in the 27thth minute got Stew Mason to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Harry Marenghi in the 33rd minute of play forced Woolwich City's goalkeeper Danny Hopkinson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tod Broadhead's late challenge caught a Walworth Runners's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tod Broadhead helped the player get up and apologised. After 35 played minutes Woolwich City got a freekick which was hit by Tod Broadhead. After 36 minutes, Byron Chalk mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Woolwich City and the Walworth Runners players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 37 played minutes Woolwich City got a freekick which was hit by Byron Chalk. Verne Bator's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 39thth minute, Stew Mason skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. If Verne Bator had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 43 minutes into the match, Woolwich City's goal looked a bit too open when Alf Woods came free, but Danny Hopkinson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 47th match minute, Woolwich City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Robert Meadowcroft to maneuver through the defense. In the 48th minute of the match Peter Hampton sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Danny Hopkinson skillfully saved the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Harry Marenghi to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Walworth Runners booed when Woolwich City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Malcolm Bowler didn't get a good kick on the ball. 60 minutes into the match, Woolwich City's goal looked a bit too open when Harry Marenghi came free, but Danny Hopkinson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Danny Hopkinson made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Alf Woods sent off a good shot on target. Harry Marenghi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danny Hopkinson having to interfere. Woolwich City's Danny Hopkinson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 70th minute of the match, managed to save Woolwich City from getting a goal against them. When Alf Ricketts was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 79 minutes had been played. After 80 played minutes Woolwich City got a freekick which was hit by Alf Ricketts. It was beautiful to see Walworth Runners's Peter Hampton in action when he in the 82nd minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! If Tod Broadhead had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Woolwich City's Malcolm Bowler in the 86th minute got a chance for a shot 86th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Walworth Runners's goalie prevented a goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Verne Bator in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Stew Mason prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Woolwich City's Byron Chalk got his second yellow card of the match in the 90th minute. The referee ordered Byron Chalk off the ground. In the 90th minute, Byron Chalk hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Woolwich City's Tod Broadhead got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Walworth Runners's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
