Spectators: 7470 (Terracing: 5641, Seating: 1729, VIP seats: 100) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Reggie Mannell kicked off to start the match. 6 minutes into the match, Walworth Runners's goal looked a bit too open when Reggie Mannell came free, but Stew Mason reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alf Woods fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matty Barraclough having to interfere. In the 12th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ashton-under-Lyne's goalkeeper Matty Barraclough, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 15 minutes into the match, Ashton-under-Lyne's goal looked a bit too open when Harry Marenghi came free, but Matty Barraclough reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ashton-under-Lyne's Matty Barraclough played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Harry Marenghi in the 16th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Reggie Mannell in the 17th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Stew Mason saved Walworth Runners from getting behind. Reggie Mannell might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Stew Mason. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Reggie Mannell ran back to his position shaking his head. 24 minutes into the match, Reggie Mannell had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Stew Mason. Walworth Runners's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Reggie Mannell was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Stew Mason showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Reggie Mannell in the 29th minute of the match. After 37 minutes of play, Ashton-under-Lyne's Mattias Bilton made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Stew Mason was left in no man's land by his defense there! Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Harry Marenghi to strike the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Reggie Mannell's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Stew Mason was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. Don Rowe took the ball and in the 56 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Stew Mason. Stew Mason dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. After having played for 60 minutes, Reggie Mannell managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ashton-under-Lyne's supporters crossed their fingers, but Reggie Mannell was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Don Rowe struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Stew Mason didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ashton-under-Lyne. Ben Maxwell charged in rather forcefully in the 62nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ben Maxwell the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 62 played minutes Walworth Runners got a freekick which was hit by Ben Maxwell. If Don Rowe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Walworth Runners's Stew Mason proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save Walworth Runners from getting a goal against them. After 79 played minutes Walworth Runners got a freekick which was hit by Nat Cryer. Reggie Mannell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 84 minutes into the match, Don Rowe had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Stew Mason. Walworth Runners's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Don Rowe was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. Don Rowe kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Don Rowe during the 99th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ashton-under-Lyne's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
