Matty Barraclough made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andy Mansell in the 18th minute of play. Don Rowe could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Chaz Marriott made a huge save. Don Rowe might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Chaz Marriott. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Don Rowe ran back to his position shaking his head. When Ashton-under-Lyne's Reggie Mannell in the 29th minute got a chance for a shot 29th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 46 minutes into the match, Wanlip Knights's goal looked a bit too open when Reggie Mannell came free, but Chaz Marriott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 47th match minute, Wanlip Knights was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastian Togwell to maneuver through the defense.

Andy Mansell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matty Barraclough having to interfere. Andy Mansell was extremely unlucky when he, in the 59th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Tristram Rowland hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. Les Milner's late challenge caught a Ashton-under-Lyne's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Les Milner helped the player get up and apologised. 71 minutes into the game, one of Wanlip Knights:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee gave Ashton-under-Lyne a penalty, 74 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Tod Medley, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Wanlip Knights's Chaz Marriott. 3-0. Wanlip Knights's Roger Black got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 82 minutes into the match, Wanlip Knights's goal looked a bit too open when Don Rowe came free, but Chaz Marriott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chaz Marriott showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Reggie Mannell, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Chaz Marriott didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Don Rowe went, in the 90th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. Reggie Mannell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Chaz Marriott tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Ashton-under-Lyne fans cheered their team off the field, for while Wanlip Knights had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
