Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Vinnie Harris started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. The supporters of Flushing booed when Ashton-under-Lyne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mattias Bilton didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 10th minute, Reggie Mannell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vinnie Harris in the 11th minute of play forced Ashton-under-Lyne's goalkeeper Matty Barraclough to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 19 minutes, Vinnie Harris mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Flushing and the Ashton-under-Lyne players grew even worse after the yellow card. Don Rowe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Philip Winterbottom having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Don Rowe in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Philip Winterbottom saved Flushing from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Don Rowe in the 41st minute of play forced Flushing's goalkeeper Philip Winterbottom to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 46th minute, Jerry McGovern hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Reggie Mannell made the kick off in the second half. Reggie Mannell struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Philip Winterbottom didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ashton-under-Lyne. The audience was convinced that Reggie Mannell's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Philip Winterbottom was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. If Reggie Mannell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Flushing's Philip Winterbottom got control of the ball when Don Rowe tried to sneak it across the goal line. Don Rowe who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 81stth minute tested the skills of Philip Winterbottom when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Vinnie Harris received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Matty Barraclough tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Matty Barraclough showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Verne Cook, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. Verne Cook received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Matty Barraclough tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Mattias Bilton fell near the penalty area in the 90th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ashton-under-Lyne's protests and gave Mattias Bilton a yellow card for diving instead. In the 91st match minute, Ashton-under-Lyne was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mattias Bilton to maneuver through the defense. If Vinnie Harris had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
