Seating: 1749, VIP seats: 10) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Marlon Grainger started the match with the kick off. 2 minutes into the game, Kris King was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Great Ayton`'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fowey United the free kick. In the 2nd minute, Kris King hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Fowey United's Grant Goodwin in the 5th minute got a chance for a shot 5th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Great Ayton`'s goalie prevented a goal. 10 minutes into the match, Fowey United's goal looked a bit too open when Eric Kennedy came free, but Dennis Crossley reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 14th minute Marlon Grainger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dennis Crossley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fowey United's Grant Goodwin got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 23 played minutes Great Ayton` got a freekick which was hit by Eric Kennedy. In the 24th minute of the match Rufus Howarth shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fraser Simms showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Grant Goodwin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fraser Simms was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Grant Goodwin in the 32nd minute of play forced Great Ayton`'s goalkeeper Fraser Simms to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 33 minutes into the match, Great Ayton`'s goal looked a bit too open when Grant Goodwin came free, but Fraser Simms reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Great Ayton`'s Fraser Simms played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kristian Manson in the 38th minute of play. 42 minutes into the game, Fowey United's Kristian Manson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fraser Simms made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After a rather tough play, Great Ayton`'s Ricky Kingston got a free kick in the 46th minute. Fraser Simms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rufus Howarth in the 47th minute of play. After the first half Fowey United were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
After having played for 50 minutes, Gordon Bedford managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Great Ayton`'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Gordon Bedford was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Fraser Simms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Grant Goodwin in the 55th minute of play. John Cutts hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. The supporters of Fowey United booed when Great Ayton` was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Verne Lawless didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 65th match minute, Great Ayton` was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marlon Grainger to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Great Ayton`'s zone, Grant Goodwin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fraser Simms came out of the goal and Grant Goodwin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Kristian Manson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Fraser Simms tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Grant Goodwin in the 82nd minute of play forced Great Ayton`'s goalkeeper Fraser Simms to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 85 minutes, Eric Kennedy mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Great Ayton` and the Fowey United players grew even worse after the yellow card. Eric Kennedy kicked well hit freekick during the 85th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Great Ayton`'s zone, Grant Goodwin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fraser Simms came out of the goal and Grant Goodwin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 88th minute, Grant Goodwin fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Fraser Simms, passed just outside the right post. Kristian Manson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Grant Goodwin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fraser Simms having to interfere. After 92 played minutes Great Ayton` got a freekick which was hit by Eric Kennedy. Kristian Manson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Fraser Simms tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fowey United's Dennis Crossley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marlon Grainger in the 96th minute of play. When the match was over Fowey United could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Great Ayton` throughout the match.
