The supporters of Barcelona booed when Bourne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frankie Stockley didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Pat Kershaw came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the Barcelona fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pat Kershaw couldn't finish the play. 8 minutes into the match, Bourne's goal looked a bit too open when Keith Crittenden came free, but Andre Bridge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Andre Bridge didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Keith Crittenden went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Byron Kellaway managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bourne's supporters rose to their feet, but Byron Kellaway was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Henry Kenna breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pat Kershaw recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Calvin Saville could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Henry Kenna made a huge save. If Pat Kershaw had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Keith Crittenden in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Andre Bridge saved Bourne from getting behind. In the 38th minute Pat Kershaw shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andre Bridge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Andre Bridge made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Keith Crittenden in the 40th minute of play. A collision led to Bourne getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Damien Acton hit a great ball. Andre Bridge showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Keith Crittenden in the 42nd minute of the match. Andre Bridge took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pat Kershaw, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 46th match minute, Bourne was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Graham Lofthouse to maneuver through the defense. After the first half Barcelona were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Keith Crittenden made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Bourne's Jermaine Cadwallader got a free kick in the 51st minute. 52 minutes into the match, Bourne's goal looked a bit too open when Keith Crittenden came free, but Andre Bridge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bourne's Andre Bridge played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Keith Crittenden in the 54th minute of play. Pat Kershaw fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andre Bridge having to interfere. Andre Bridge stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Keith Crittenden's shot from short distance in the 60th minute. Gaz Searle kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. Bourne's Andre Bridge proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 71st minute of the match, managed to save Bourne from getting a goal against them. When Bourne's Byron Kellaway in the 73rd minute got a chance for a shot 73rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Barcelona's goalie prevented a goal. Pat Kershaw scored 0-4 in the 75th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Andre Bridge, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Byron Kellaway in the 81st minute of play forced Barcelona's goalkeeper Henry Kenna to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pat Kershaw received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Andre Bridge tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 87 minutes into the match, Bourne's goal looked a bit too open when Pat Kershaw came free, but Andre Bridge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pat Kershaw's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Andre Bridge firmly grabbed it by the left post. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Barcelona eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
