Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Sunderland's Francis Pointon started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, Harleston United's Eddie Shakespeare got a free kick in the 3rd minute. Neil Liddle hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. The long shot by Stuart Beresford in the 5th minute really tested Roger Whitworth's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Luke Dryden fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Basil Delamore having to interfere. Basil Delamore showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luke Dryden, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Grant Togwell's late challenge caught a Sunderland's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Grant Togwell helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Harleston United's Grant Togwell got a free kick in the 21st minute. Basil Delamore showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlton Spurgeon, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Ryan Bell charged in rather forcefully in the 26th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ryan Bell the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Harleston United's Ryan Bell got a free kick in the 26th minute. Francis Pointon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roger Whitworth having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Harleston United's zone, Francis Pointon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Roger Whitworth came out of the goal and Francis Pointon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Harleston United's Roger Whitworth proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 39th minute of the match, managed to save Harleston United from getting a goal against them. Roger Whitworth showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Francis Pointon, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
The wind increased when Luke Dryden made the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Sunderland's goal looked a bit too open when Luke Dryden came free, but Basil Delamore reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Harleston United's zone, Francis Pointon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Roger Whitworth came out of the goal and Francis Pointon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Roger Whitworth came out of the goal in the 54th minute to try and stop a shot by Sunderland's Josh Fry. But to his dismay, Josh Fry quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Edward Griffin kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. Basil Delamore stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luke Dryden's shot from short distance in the 59th minute. In the 65th minute, Giles Collingwood left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sunderland fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Roger Whitworth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francis Pointon in the 72nd minute of the match. In the 75th minute, Josh Fry got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 79th match minute, Harleston United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Basil Johnstone to maneuver through the defense. Harleston United's Roger Whitworth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Josh Fry in the 83rd minute of play. When Giles Collingwood fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sunderland's protests and gave Giles Collingwood a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Harleston United booed when Sunderland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giles Collingwood didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 87th minute, Edward Griffin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Basil Johnstone took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 88th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Basil Delamore. Sunderland's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Harleston United's Roger Whitworth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Josh Fry in the 94th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Sunderland had won after a very even match.
