But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Darren Goodwin couldn't finish the play. In the 14th minute, Tommy Brooks fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Romeo Fowler, passed just outside the right post. In the 18th minute, Tommy Brooks hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Kristian Best had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kristian Best received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Romeo Fowler tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hilperton United's goalkeeper Sly Duckworth, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 40 minutes into the game, Conan Hewitt was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hilperton United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Marden FC the free kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in Hilperton United fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 40th minute. Penalty! Vince Beecham hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. 48 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Hilperton United's Kristian Best fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head.

The wind increased when Todd Hudson made the kick off in the second half. Todd Hudson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Sly Duckworth tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 65th minute Kristian Best shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Romeo Fowler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Hilperton United's Sly Duckworth got control of the ball when Darren Goodwin tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 80th minute, Marden FC's Lance Bartrup seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Lance Bartrup the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Marden FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Lance Bartrup had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 80 minutes into the game, one of Marden FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Hilperton United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kristian Best was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 89 minutes into the match, Hilperton United's Tommy Brooks sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Romeo Fowler narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 99th minute, Hilperton United's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Darren Goodwin fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
