Neil Young recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 3rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Vern Tisdale kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. When Kev Foley came up free with the goalie in the 5th minute, the Long Hanborough AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kev Foley couldn't finish the play. Kev Foley struck a weak shot in the 7th minute. Will Bowland didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Long Hanborough AFC. George Stevens took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 11th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Lawrence Moss. Long Hanborough AFC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Will Bowland made an important save on a dangerous shot by Neil Young in the 20th minute. A collision led to Long Hanborough AFC getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Carlton Emmerson hit a great ball. 0-1 became the score in the 24th minute when Dale Atkins elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Kev Foley managed to get in a good position for a shot. Long Hanborough AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Kev Foley was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Will Bowland breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Neil Young fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Will Bowland having to interfere. Kev Foley's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Will Bowland read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. 36 minutes into the match, Barnsley's goalkeeper Will Bowland had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Neil Young. A hard shot 38 in the game by Neil Young from a close distance when the talented Will Bowland managed to make a qualified save. Barnsley's players were relieved. Kev Foley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Will Bowland having to interfere. In the 43rdth minute of the game Kev Foley who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Barnsley's Will Bowland was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Will Bowland took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kev Foley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Dale Atkins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. During the 47th minute of the match Carlton Emmerson completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Carlton Emmerson a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dale Atkins stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 53 played minutes Long Hanborough AFC got a freekick which was hit by Mickey Spencer. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Dom Jones managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barnsley's supporters rose to their feet, but Dom Jones was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lawrence Moss breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Dom Joness short, quick shot in the 61stth minute got Lawrence Moss to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Long Hanborough AFC's Kurt Ingram got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Robbie Houlahan during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Barnsley's Robbie Houlahan got a free kick in the 65th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Neil Young managed to get in a good position for a shot. Long Hanborough AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Neil Young was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Will Bowland breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Dom Jones's late challenge caught a Long Hanborough AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dom Jones helped the player get up and apologised. When Kev Foley fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Long Hanborough AFC's protests and gave Kev Foley a yellow card for diving instead. If Neil Young had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Robin Wills sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dale Atkins received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Lawrence Moss tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Long Hanborough AFC supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Barnsley's performance. The match ended with a win for Barnsley.
