Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Ronny Reddington got the match started through his kick off. Wombwell United's Kris Patten played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by John-Paul Berryman in the 5th minute of play. Mark Hall fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mitch McAleer having to interfere. Kris Patten showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from John-Paul Berryman, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. In the 9th minute, Wombwell United's Ronny Reddington ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Mitch McAleer. Mitch McAleer yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Jermaine Howard's late challenge caught a Wombwell United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jermaine Howard helped the player get up and apologised. In the 18th minute, Jermaine Howard hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 20th minute, Wombwell United's Vernon Rushmere seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Vernon Rushmere the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Wombwell United protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Vernon Rushmere had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Wombwell United fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 19th minute. Penalty! In the 22nd minute there was a penalty for Scunthorpe. Gaz Ainge stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Kris Patten. 1-1. 26 minutes into the game, James Wild threw the ball into play from the sideline. Wombwell United's John Sutton quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. The supporters of Scunthorpe booed when Wombwell United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. John Sutton didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kris Patten took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from John-Paul Berryman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Micheal Knott fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Scunthorpe's protests and gave Micheal Knott a yellow card for diving instead. In the 33rd match minute, Scunthorpe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Micheal Knott to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Wombwell United getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Ronny Reddington hit a great ball. 37 minutes into the match, Wombwell United's goal looked a bit too open when John-Paul Berryman came free, but Kris Patten reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Kris Patten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John-Paul Berryman in the 39th minute of play. In the 44th minute John-Paul Berryman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kris Patten saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 46 minutes into the match, Wombwell United's goal looked a bit too open when John Ellison came free, but Kris Patten reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for John-Paul Berryman to strike the kick off in the second half. Kris Patten was a little too slow when John-Paul Berryman got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 54th minute. The score was now 1-3. John Ellison's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Kris Patten firmly grabbed it by the left post. 65 minutes into the match, Wombwell United's goal looked a bit too open when John-Paul Berryman came free, but Kris Patten reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Kris Patten made an important save on a dangerous shot by John Ellison in the 66th minute. Jerry Knight-Percival received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Mitch McAleer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mitch McAleer didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jerry Knight-Percival went, in the 72nd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. John Ellison kicked a quick shot right in front of the goal in the 77thth minute. Though ot was a great shot Wombwell United's keeper Kris Patten was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. When Jerry Knight-Percival came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Wombwell United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jerry Knight-Percival couldn't finish the play. John Ellison received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Kris Patten tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jerry Knight-Percival struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Mitch McAleer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Wombwell United. Mark Hall fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mitch McAleer having to interfere. 95 minutes into the match, Wombwell United's goal looked a bit too open when John-Paul Berryman came free, but Kris Patten reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chants of Scunthorpe echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Wombwell United had held the ball for most of the match.
