The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Wirral Town FC getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. Darius Bailey hit a great ball. Bradley Osborn received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 5th minute. Tod Ingram tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stewart Locke in the 8th minute of play forced Penrith United's goalkeeper Danny Vaughan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Stewart Probert in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Danny Vaughan prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Danny Vaughan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Stewart Probert in the 21st minute. Stewart Locke struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Danny Vaughan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Wirral Town FC. Penrith United's Danny Vaughan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Penrith United from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Wirral Town FC booed when Penrith United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kevin Clay didn't get a good kick on the ball. 28 minutes into the match, Wirral Town FC's Grant Creighton broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 33rd minute, Stewart Locke fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. 34 minutes into the match, Stewart Probert notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Penrith United's Danny Vaughan. Danny Vaughan was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Casey Gordon kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. In the 42nd minute, Stewart Probert made a precise shot to the right of Danny Vaughan. Penrith United's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-0. Danny Vaughan was a little too slow when Stewart Locke got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 47th minute. The score was now 5-0. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 5-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Stewart Probert to make the kick off. Danny Vaughan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Stewart Probert's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. After 54 minutes, Darius Bailey mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Wirral Town FC and the Penrith United players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Wirral Town FC's Darius Bailey got a free kick in the 54th minute. Tod Ingram acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 55th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Rueben Simpson. Danny Vaughan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stewart Locke in the 58th minute of play. Aaron Beard hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. After 59 played minutes, Wirral Town FC's Seth Mabbutt shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Danny Vaughan came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Wirral Town FC reached it. Aaron Beard hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. After 66 minutes of play Wirral Town FC's Darius Bailey was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kevin Clay during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Danny Vaughan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stewart Locke in the 74th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Stewart Locke in the 77th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Danny Vaughan prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Seth Mabbutt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wirral Town FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Seth Mabbutt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Danny Vaughan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The attack was good, but when Stewart Locke in the 81st minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Kevin Clay got his second yellow card in the match during the 82nd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 87th minute Stewart Locke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Danny Vaughan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 91 minutes into the match, Penrith United's goal looked a bit too open when Stewart Locke came free, but Danny Vaughan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 94thth minute of the game Stewart Locke who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Penrith United's Danny Vaughan was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Danny Vaughan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Seth Mabbutt's shot from short distance in the 95th minute. There was no doubt that Wirral Town FC were the better team. Wirral Town FC's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
