The referee ignored Gharb Rangers's protests and gave Tony Petroni a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Marsa FC booed when Gharb Rangers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tony Petroni didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 12thth minute of the game Jonathan Scriha who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Marsa FC's Tim Dimech was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Owen Gambin fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Marsa FC's protests and gave Owen Gambin a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Marsa FC's Owen Gambin got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Bjorn Pace Bonello fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juan Duca having to interfere. Tim Callus kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. In the 28th minute the ball was on its way in behind Gharb Rangers's goalkeeper Juan Duca, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Tim Dimech didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jonathan Scriha went, in the 32nd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Marsa FC's Steve Gordon collided with an opponent after 39 minutes. He was hit so badly that he fractured his arm. 39 minutes into the game, Neville Depasquale was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gharb Rangers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Marsa FC the free kick. Neville Depasquale hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. Juan Duca was a little too slow when Bjorn Pace Bonello got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 43rd minute. The score was now 1-1. After a defensive mix-up in Gharb Rangers's zone, Keith Xuereb stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Juan Duca came out of the goal and Keith Xuereb tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Tony Petroni managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gharb Rangers's supporters rose to their feet, but Tony Petroni was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tim Dimech breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tony Petroni was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 57th minute. Gharb Rangers's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. When the match clock showed 58 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Jonathan Scriha sped through Marsa FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Tim Dimech. The audience was convinced that Keith Xuereb's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Juan Duca was relentless in the 61st minute of the game. If Keith Xuereb had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 64th minute, Bjorn Pace Bonello ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Juan Duca was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. Tim Callus kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. Keith Xuereb scored 3-2 in the 75th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Juan Duca, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Juan Duca took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Keith Xuereb, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jonathan Scriha could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 86th minute of the match, but Tim Dimech made a huge save. Tim Dimech showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tony Petroni in the 88th minute of the match. In the 90th minute, Patrick Zammit left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Marsa FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-2. There was no doubt that Marsa FC were the better team. Marsa FC's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
