Stefan Hilton was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 6th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Otto Borchard. Stefan Hilton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralf Edelstein in the 7th minute of play. After a rather tough play, F91 Dudelange's Victor Hauer got a free kick in the 9th minute. Stefan Hilton came out of the goal in the 12th minute to try and stop a shot by F91 Dudelange's Otto Kühnhackl. But to his dismay, Otto Kühnhackl quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Victor Hauer kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tod Clemence in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Philip von Prittwitz saved F91 Dudelange from getting behind. In the 22nd match minute, s.l.benfica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tommy Love to maneuver through the defense. In the 26th minute Tod Clemence shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Philip von Prittwitz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Oliveira Moniz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Philip von Prittwitz having to make a save. After a rather tough play, s.l.benfica's Ivan Jewson got a free kick in the 31st minute. Tod Clemence's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Philip von Prittwitz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 33rd minute of play. Augusto Fontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Philip von Prittwitz having to interfere. Dennis Gottschalk fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stefan Hilton having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Dennis Gottschalk made the kick off in the second half. Augusto Fontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Philip von Prittwitz having to interfere. In the 65th minute, Otto Borchard hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Daryl Glasby kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. Philip von Prittwitz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tod Clemence, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tod Clemence who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 77thth minute tested the skills of Philip von Prittwitz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 80 minutes, Brett Deacon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the s.l.benfica and the F91 Dudelange players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of F91 Dudelange booed when s.l.benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Brett Deacon didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 89 played minutes, F91 Dudelange's Abraham Zimmermann shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Stefan Hilton came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in F91 Dudelange reached it. After having played for 92 minutes, Tod Clemence managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. s.l.benfica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tod Clemence was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ralf Edelstein's late challenge caught a s.l.benfica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ralf Edelstein helped the player get up and apologised. In the 95th minute, Ralf Edelstein hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
