The supporters of Volkmarode booed when Sankt Aldegund FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nathan Poreski didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee showed Bert Kosack the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 33 minutes into the match, Volkmarode's goal looked a bit too open when Volker Irmler came free, but Paavo Geissler reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 37th minute, Horst Repplinger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 41 minutes into the match, Sankt Aldegund FC's goalkeeper Otto Schreiner had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Markus Rüppel. 43 minutes into the game, Heinz-Gerd Ruhmland cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Otto Schreiner was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 46th minute, Volker Irmler left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sankt Aldegund FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

After having played for 81 minutes, Manuel Burkert managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sankt Aldegund FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Manuel Burkert was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The Volkmarode fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Paavo Geissler should have stopped the shot. Paavo Geissler showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Volker Irmler, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. In the 90th minute Volker Irmler shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paavo Geissler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
