Karl-Georg Bartels could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Lou Rockstein made a huge save. In the 27th minute, Karl-Georg Bartels ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lou Rockstein was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Frederik Walde took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Lou Rockstein to make any attempt to save it. With a little luck, FC Würzburger Kickers's Lou Rockstein got control of the ball when Karl-Georg Bartels tried to sneak it across the goal line. Frederik Walde sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 39th minute, Frederik Walde hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ferdinand Schemel kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hellmut Balterschütz in the 48th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eberhard Meier prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Frederik Walde to make the kick off. Eberhard Meier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hellmut Balterschütz in the 59th minute of play. Frederik Walde fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lou Rockstein having to interfere. FC Würzburger Kickers's Lou Rockstein played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frederik Walde in the 64th minute of play. Hellmut Balterschütz did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 2-2 to the left of a surprised Eberhard Meier 66 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frederik Walde in the 71st minute of play forced FC Würzburger Kickers's goalkeeper Lou Rockstein to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lou Rockstein took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frederik Walde, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 77th minute, Karl-Georg Bartels left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Gerolstein fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. Lou Rockstein came out of the goal in the 86th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Gerolstein's Karl-Georg Bartels. But to his dismay, Karl-Georg Bartels quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-2. After a defensive mix-up in FC Gerolstein's zone, Claus Nomayo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eberhard Meier came out of the goal and Claus Nomayo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frederik Walde in the 94th minute of play forced FC Würzburger Kickers's goalkeeper Lou Rockstein to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Martin Kühlem kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. FC Würzburger Kickers's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because FC Gerolstein had won, even though FC Würzburger Kickers had held more of the ball.
