Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Georg Richardsen started the match with the kick off. In the 8th minute Ansgar Grosser shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gülsün Bleicher saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Patrick Bankett charged in rather forcefully in the 11th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Patrick Bankett the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Conweiler getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Patrick Bankett hit a great ball. Andreas Ruge who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 13thth minute tested the skills of Herbert Sturz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ansgar Grosser in the 16th minute of play forced Overath's goalkeeper Gülsün Bleicher to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Udo Hansen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Herbert Sturz having to interfere. With a little luck, Conweiler's Herbert Sturz got control of the ball when Andreas Ruge tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ron Schauerte might have been able to make a better finish in the 36th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Herbert Sturz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ron Schauerte ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, Conweiler's Herbert Sturz got control of the ball when Andreas Ruge tried to sneak it across the goal line. 40 minutes into the match, Andreas Ruge had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Herbert Sturz. Conweiler's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Andreas Ruge was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Andreas Ruge managed to get in a good position for a shot. Overath's supporters rose to their feet, but Andreas Ruge was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Herbert Sturz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Andreas Ruge to make the kick off. When Overath's Andreas Ruge in the 53rd minute got a chance for a shot 53rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Conweiler's goalie prevented a goal. Andreas Ruge sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 69 minutes, Ewald Bange managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Overath's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ewald Bange was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Andreas Ruge fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Herbert Sturz having to interfere. Albrecht Riemer took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Herbert Sturz. Herbert Sturz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. The Overath fans' excitement grew in the 77th match minute when Overath's Andreas Ruge looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 81st minute, Conweiler's Georg Richardsen ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Gülsün Bleicher. Gülsün Bleicher yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-1. Overath's Mathias Stark suffered a sore foot after 85 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Overath's Helmut Roth was substituted for Mathias Stark. Herbert Sturz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Andreas Ruge in the 88th minute of the match. Herbert Sturz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Albrecht Riemer, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Conweiler's zone, Andreas Ruge stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Herbert Sturz came out of the goal and Andreas Ruge tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 95th minute Andreas Ruge shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herbert Sturz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Andreas Ruge had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Overath had played much better football throughout.
