After a defensive mix-up in FSV Mainz 05's zone, Lutz Ziegelmüller stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Felix Gröger came out of the goal and Lutz Ziegelmüller tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Altenbork getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Erwin Jablonski hit a great ball. Felix Gröger took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erwin Jablonski, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Günther Rhein kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. In the 11th minute, Günther Rhein hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 12th minute, Franz Dziersan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 15 minutes into the game, Altenbork's Jakob Tollmann nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Felix Gröger made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erwin Jablonski in the 19th minute of play forced FSV Mainz 05's goalkeeper Felix Gröger to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Roland Schacht took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Christian Grimmelshausen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 25th match minute, FSV Mainz 05 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raphael Kennerknecht to maneuver through the defense. Jakob Tollmann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Fidelio Kaulbach fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Felix Gröger having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Erwin Jablonski was the one to do the kick off. Altenbork were awarded a corner in the 55th minute after FSV Mainz 05's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Lutz Ziegelmüller took the corner. A well-hit corner resulted in Jakob Tollmann heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. After 56 played minutes FSV Mainz 05 got a freekick which was hit by Christian Grimmelshausen. In the 57th match minute, Altenbork was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Franz Dziersan to maneuver through the defense. Jakob Tollmann hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Roland Schacht showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raphael Kennerknecht, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Bernhard Conrad kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. In the 67th match minute, FSV Mainz 05 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Christian Grimmelshausen to maneuver through the defense. After 68 played minutes Altenbork got a freekick which was hit by Lutz Ziegelmüller. After a rather tough play, FSV Mainz 05's Günther Rhein got a free kick in the 69th minute. Rico Jakobs kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Bernhard Conrad charged in rather forcefully in the 75th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bernhard Conrad the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, FSV Mainz 05's Günther Rhein got a free kick in the 80th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 85th minute, Jakob Tollmann managed to get in a good position for a shot. Altenbork's supporters rose to their feet, but Jakob Tollmann was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Felix Gröger breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Felix Gröger showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jakob Tollmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. In the 91st minute the ball was on its way in behind FSV Mainz 05's goalkeeper Felix Gröger, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Jakob Tollmann kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Felix Gröger. That made the score 0-3 in the 94 minute of play. When the match was over Altenbork could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than FSV Mainz 05 throughout the match.
