The FC Colchester fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. In the 16th minute Gordon Reumann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Balduin Hesselbach saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Manuel Manske in the 17th minute of play forced VfL Teck's goalkeeper Balduin Hesselbach to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hansjörg Christoph sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hansjörg Christoph recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In a very dangerous position, a player in VfL Teck fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 45th minute. Penalty! In the 49th minute there was a penalty for FC Colchester. Domenico Genau stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Balduin Hesselbach. 0-5. After the first half FC Colchester were leading 0-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The referee ignored VfL Teck's protests and gave Rudolf Thiele a yellow card for diving instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Erko Kobel got free with Balduin Hesselbach in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, FC Colchester's Domenico Genau got a free kick in the 73rd minute. VfL Teck's defense didn't have a chance, in the 75th minute, when Manuel Manske scored to the left of an out of position Balduin Hesselbach, making the score, 0-6. Rudolf Thiele fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Götz Schikorra having to interfere. 81 minutes into the match, VfL Teck's goalkeeper Balduin Hesselbach had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Erko Kobel. After some careless play in the VfL Teck defense, Erko Kobel kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Balduin Hesselbach. The VfL Teck fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Balduin Hesselbach should have stopped the shot. Balduin Hesselbach took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gordon Reumann, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Balduin Hesselbach showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Manuel Manske in the 92nd minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as FC Colchester's Manuel Manske slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Balduin Hesselbach. That made the score 0-9 after 95 minutes of play. FC Colchester played a much better game than VfL Teck and deserved their victory. The VfL Teck players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
