The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rdth minute of the game Wilfried Steininger who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but 1.FC Magdeburg's Alfred Seng was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Alec Bluhm's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Alfred Seng read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 5th minute of play. Alfred Seng showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alec Bluhm in the 6th minute of the match. Kurt Schimmel's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mehmet Becker read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. Alfred Seng made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wilfried Steininger in the 21st minute of play. The supporters of FC Lahnstein booed when 1.FC Magdeburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilfried Kalnik didn't get a good kick on the ball. 23 minutes into the game, Leonhard Bloch recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Mehmet Becker. Leonhard Bloch showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Alec Bluhm recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of FC Lahnstein booed when 1.FC Magdeburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilfried Kalnik didn't get a good kick on the ball. 1.FC Magdeburg's Alfred Seng played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alec Bluhm in the 29th minute of play. The FC Lahnstein fans' excitement grew in the 32nd match minute when FC Lahnstein's Alec Bluhm looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Alec Bluhm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the FC Lahnstein defense, Leonhard Bloch kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mehmet Becker. The FC Lahnstein fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mehmet Becker should have stopped the shot. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Kurt Schimmel stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Kurt Schimmel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mehmet Becker having to interfere. 64 minutes into the game, 1.FC Magdeburg's Kurt Schimmel nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mehmet Becker made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. Leonhard Bloch struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Mehmet Becker didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for 1.FC Magdeburg. After a defensive mix-up in FC Lahnstein's zone, Leonhard Bloch stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mehmet Becker came out of the goal and Leonhard Bloch tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 70 minutes, Wilfried Steininger managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Lahnstein's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wilfried Steininger was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 81 minutes, Slaven Hörster mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the 1.FC Magdeburg and the FC Lahnstein players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 81 played minutes 1.FC Magdeburg got a freekick which was hit by Slaven Hörster. After 87 played minutes 1.FC Magdeburg got a freekick which was hit by Wilfried Kalnik. In the 89th minute, Wilfried Kalnik hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. 1.FC Magdeburg had played much better football throughout.
