André Zeiss sent away a hard shot on goal in the 2nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lukas Winternagel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Victor Jerat in the 3rd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Borussia Dortmund's zone, Constantin Großmann stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mathis Rippert came out of the goal and Constantin Großmann tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 8th minute of the match, Anton Bier got a very nice opportunity to score, but Mathis Rippert was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. André Zeiss took the ball and in the 10 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lukas Winternagel. Lukas Winternagel dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. In the 16th minute, James Kienböck left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Borussia Dortmund fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. If Constantin Großmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mathis Rippert made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Constantin Großmann in the 25th minute of play. Norbert Kessen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lauritz Seeger during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 27th minute, Lauritz Seeger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 28th minute of the match Ignaz Kuhl sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Lukas Winternagel skillfully saved the ball. Lukas Winternagel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victor Jerat, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Borussia Dortmund's Mathis Rippert proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Borussia Dortmund from getting a goal against them. If André Zeiss had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 47th minute, Jörg Ebmonts got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Victor Jerat made a kick off. BFC Dynamo's Lukas Winternagel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save BFC Dynamo from getting a goal against them. The supporters of BFC Dynamo booed when Borussia Dortmund was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. André Zeiss didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mathis Rippert showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Constantin Großmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. BFC Dynamo's Lukas Winternagel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Victor Jerat in the 73rd minute of play.
