In the 13th minute, Michael Paulssen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Egon Ulrich in the 14th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Tobias Guenther prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Högl getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Egon Ulrich hit a great ball. 42 minutes into the match, VFB Stuttgart's goal looked a bit too open when Lothar Seybold came free, but Tobias Guenther reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hellmut Karrenbauer to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute Herrmann Rocker shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilhelm Schüßler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Michael Paulssen during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 63rd match minute, VFB Stuttgart was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Michael Paulssen to maneuver through the defense. Egon Ulrich struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. With an all-out effort, Högl's Tobias Guenther threw himself towards the right post 84 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Lothar Seybold, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 86 minutes into the match, VFB Stuttgart's goalkeeper Tobias Guenther had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lothar Seybold. In the 87th minute, Boris Hinz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Egon Ulrich fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tobias Guenther having to interfere. Lothar Seybold's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tobias Guenther read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. Högl were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
