But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reto Moratschke couldn't finish the play. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Gittelde FSV's goalkeeper Gennaro Wiesemann, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Christopher Ellinghaus fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tobias Guenther having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Fatmir Schmaltz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gittelde FSV's supporters rose to their feet, but Fatmir Schmaltz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tobias Guenther breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gittelde FSV's Christopher Ellinghaus got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hellmut Karrenbauer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gennaro Wiesemann having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hellmut Karrenbauer was the one to do the kick off. If Herrmann Rocker had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Reto Moratschke recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Friedrich Reiner's late challenge caught a Gittelde FSV's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Friedrich Reiner helped the player get up and apologised. Friedrich Reiner hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. 65 minutes into the match, VFB Stuttgart's goal looked a bit too open when Christopher Ellinghaus came free, but Tobias Guenther reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 67 minutes into the match, Gittelde FSV's goalkeeper Gennaro Wiesemann had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hellmut Karrenbauer. The crowd rose to their feet as VFB Stuttgart's Hellmut Karrenbauer slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Gennaro Wiesemann. That made the score 0-5 after 71 minutes of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Christopher Ellinghaus in the 74th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Tobias Guenther prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match clock showed 75 minutes, the score became 0-6 when Hellmut Karrenbauer sped through Gittelde FSV's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Gennaro Wiesemann. Gennaro Wiesemann made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hellmut Karrenbauer in the 82nd minute. VFB Stuttgart's Reto Moratschke got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Christopher Ellinghaus struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Tobias Guenther didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gittelde FSV. In the 93rd minute, Reto Moratschke hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. VFB Stuttgart walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
