The referee ignored BSC Young Boys's protests and gave Renato Rauber a yellow card for diving instead. After 6 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for BSC Young Boys! The referee gave FC Bug a penalty, 8 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Sandro Flory, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of BSC Young Boys's Pietro Schmid. 0-1. In the 10th match minute, FC Bug was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sandro Flory to maneuver through the defense. Cyrill Staldegger sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of FC Bug booed when BSC Young Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gualtier Malatesta didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 23rd minute, Nikolai Bühlmann fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After a rather tough play, FC Bug's Jarno Kost got a free kick in the 27th minute. Pirmin Henziross received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Pietro Schmid tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Cyrill Staldegger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jarno Kost fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pietro Schmid having to interfere. In the 45th match minute, FC Bug was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Justus Federer to maneuver through the defense. BSC Young Boys's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Jacques Frey in the 48th minute. A nice corner shot did that Jacques Frey got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Fabrice Mastroiacovo quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Cyrill Staldegger to strike the kick off in the second half. If Olivier Gassmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. FC Bug's Fabrice Mastroiacovo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Olivier Gassmann in the 58th minute of play. After 65 played minutes, FC Bug's Hampton Kaestner shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Pietro Schmid came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FC Bug reached it. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cyrill Staldegger in the 66th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pietro Schmid prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 68th match minute, FC Bug was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Justus Federer to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the FC Bug defense, Severiano Beschmann kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fabrice Mastroiacovo. The FC Bug fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fabrice Mastroiacovo should have stopped the shot. In the 80th minute FC Bug were awarded a corner. Sandro Flory went to the cornerflag to take it. In the 80thth minute of the game Cyrill Staldegger who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but BSC Young Boys's Pietro Schmid was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Pietro Schmid showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cyrill Staldegger in the 88th minute of the match. FC Bug's Pirmin Henziross got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 93rd minute of the match FC Bug got a corner. BSC Young Boys's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Sandro Flory ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led FC Bug's Sandro Flory to fire away a dangerous shot which Pietro Schmid despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 95 minutes into the match, BSC Young Boys's goalkeeper Pietro Schmid had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Pirmin Henziross. FC Bug's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
