After a defensive mix-up in Club Brugge KV's zone, Fernand Huyghens stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bartjan Van de kauter came out of the goal and Fernand Huyghens tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Club Brugge KV's Alex Weggers got a free kick in the 13th minute. Lennart Van den Bossche struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Bastiaan Sustens didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Club Brugge KV. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ief Laureys in the 25th minute of play forced Club Brugge KV's goalkeeper Bartjan Van de kauter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 29th minute of the game. One of Club Brugge KV:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of VC Fl:s goal. In the 32nd minute there was a penalty for VC Fl. Sander Bruyninckx stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Bartjan Van de kauter. 0-1. 37 minutes into the match, Club Brugge KV's Lennart Van den Bossche sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bastiaan Sustens narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Lennart Van den Bossche could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Bastiaan Sustens made a huge save. If Stan De Custer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 46 minutes into the match, Club Brugge KV's goal looked a bit too open when Ief Laureys came free, but Bartjan Van de kauter reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ronny Stuycken made a kick off. After having played for 52 minutes, Harrie Christiaens managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Brugge KV's supporters crossed their fingers, but Harrie Christiaens was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bartjan Van de kauter made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ief Laureys in the 67th minute. After having played for 80 minutes, Boris Stevens managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. VC Fl's supporters crossed their fingers, but Boris Stevens was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bastiaan Sustens showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Harrie Christiaens, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. In the 85th minute, Alex Weggers hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The VC Fl supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing VC Fl would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
