Edmundo Fontão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fábio Barreiros , who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. If Balduíno Fonseca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Nantwich United getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Paulo Mantorras hit a great ball. Nantwich United's defense didn't have a chance, in the 31st minute, when Nuno Ericeira scored to the left of an out of position Simão Varanda, making the score, 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nuno Ericeira in the 39th minute of play forced Nantwich United's goalkeeper Simão Varanda to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Whitby's Edmundo Fontão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fábio Barreiros in the 41st minute of play. Edmundo Fontão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Custódio Lourenço in the 46th minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nuno Ericeira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Simão Varanda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Balduíno Fonseca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 58th match minute, Whitby was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vítor Rochedo to maneuver through the defense. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Balduíno Fonseca couldn't finish the play. Balduíno Fonseca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Simão Varanda tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nuno Ericeira in the 92nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Simão Varanda saved Nantwich United from getting behind. For all the effort they put into the match, the Nantwich United players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Whitby.
